I don’t like to be the bearer of bad news, but I just noticed we are 3 weeks until back to school.  I started to write about getting back into a healthy food and sleep routine, but I feel we need to savour these next 2 weeks as best we can, before even considering back to school schedules and routines.

So, just a simple thought for this week’s blog.  “Enjoy!”  Keep it simple and enjoy these next 2 weeks.  Self care is a HUGE part of health, and taking care of your own joy and fun and self-indulging activities is a true necessity.  We’d need to talk if that involved a 2 litre bucket of Rolo ice cream, but it’s a good time to be nice to yourself.

Check in with yourself to see what comes up.  How?  Close your eyes and ask “What do I need?”.  Wait a while - maybe even 15 minutes.  It could be a hike with a friend, tea alone, meditation, an evening quiet walk on the beach, reading a book in a hammock, or making a new highly recommended recipe.  Something simple, but something just for you.

That being said, some of the foods that are locally available fresh from the gardens of local growers are incredible and simply delicious.  Peaches, cantaloupe, carrots, kale, corn, and tomatoes are specific ones that come to mind, but there are so many more that are easy to find at markets like Quality Greens.

All of these fruits and veggies have fibre, antioxidants and nutrients that are important for your cellular needs, which promotes health in your body.  As Michael Pollan, a famous and inspiring author, journalist and activist said in this very simple statement: “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.”

Simple!  Enjoy the last weeks of summer!
