Welcome to the New Year 2020!  Here we are, the end of a year, and the end of a decade.  This time of year is often where we reflect on the past and plan for the new year.

My suggestion is when reflecting on the past, don’t get stuck in the areas that weren’t the best.  Focus on what was amazing and heart warming and use that to lift yourself up for what is coming in the future.  Focus on the good stuff and move forward with that in mind and heart.  That really is the most effective way to improve our lives, and I think that is what we all strive for.

Resolutions…. not sure if those are actually a thing anymore.  These usually are some form of trying to make a positive change in our lives, which actually is great plan.  It could revolve around feeling better, eating better, doing more of things that help us or others.  Those are all great things, and something that is doable all year round, not just a January pressure change.

Just taking it slow, with not too much pressure or pain, with small gentle steps, that helps a change to become a habit and  a regular part of our lives.

In the area of food and eating better.  Let’s consider a very small yet incredibly helpful change…..

Drink more water.

Ideally, drink half an ounce for each pound your body weight.  So 150lbs = 75 ounces.

This 1 change to get your ideal amount of water is:

1.) Doable - we all have access to water

2.) Cheap -  it costs very little

3.) Heathy - Is good for everyone as it is vital to life

4.) A possible symptom problem solver - being properly hydrated can resolve a number of issues from headaches to constipation as well as low energy, if dehydration is the cause of these (and it often is)

5.) Simple - it requires no other changes - just add more water

To help with this plan, use a stainless steel or glass water bottle, to carry with you to keep water with you all day long.

The added benefit is, if you are drinking more water, maybe you are also drinking less other options that may have added sugars, or ingredients that aren’t so great.

Additionally eating more fruits and veggies will also greatly increase your water intake naturally.  Obvious ones like watermelon, but also cucumber, oranges, berries, lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini, and cantaloupe are just some examples.  Making soups that have water added is also a great hydration helper.

January can be a month that is full of tasks that are tedious, make 1 simple change that is doable and you’ll have a new habit by the end of the month, and then you can see what feels doable for the next month, and so on.
