Pomegranates….Have you tried one of these interesting fruits? Hopefully you will after knowing more about these antioxidant superheros. The pomegranate tree is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region of Asia, Africa and Europe. Research shows pomegranates have more antioxidant power than green tea, cranberry juice, or even acai juice. Antioxidants are important for reducing damage of oxidative stress and free radicals. These are processes in the body that happen with aging but also occur due to toxins and other negative lifestyle factors. This means increased protection against heart disease, cancer, cognitive impairment and is helpful in reducing inflammation, the source of most diseases. The phyto (plant) chemicals in this fruit also show to have blood pressure reducing properties.
To enjoy this fruit, slice in half and tap the outer shell with a spatula or wooden spoon while holding it face open in your hand or bowl.
