This week I have some ideas to share on simple remedies. When something pops up in your house for any common and somewhat simple illnesses, it’s nice to have some go to options that can be of help.
Doesn’t it seem like there is always something to tackle in the way of a problem that needs a solution or a wound that needs healing?
For me, this week, both my golden retriever dogs have K9 cough. So, out comes the honey and vitamin C to get their immune system supported to fight through this. A quick trip to the vet to make sure nothing is out of control is helpful too. I love having options and not always having to resort to medications when simple foods are helpful.
When the kids were little, I always had some sort of food or item to help them get through tummy aches or body pain, etc. Now that they are older, they are doing this all on their own. It is such an amazing resource to find things to help your body recover from simple ailments.
Some easy go to options can be:
Sore throat - options are honey, tea, gargling with salt, and just drinking more water
Cuts - coconut oil applied to the area - it is both antibacterial and helps heal skin irritations
Burns - lavender essential oil on burns right away is a huge helper and in some cases putting raw egg white right on top of the burn, in a few layers, helps to quickly create a barrier
Upset tummy - 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar in 1/2 cup of water, if digestion is not feeling very strong. Probiotic rich foods like kefir or small amounts of kombucha, especially the ginger kind, can also soothe rough tummies.
And just in general eating whole foods will help to donate good resources, in the forms of nutrients, fibre, antioxidants and water, to help your body weather the storms.
You can find all of these items at your local Quality Greens market!
Have a great week!
Lisa.
